Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the post of Assistant Geologist, candidates must satisfy the following conditions:

  1. Citizenship: The candidate must be an Indian Citizen as defined in Articles 5 to 8 of the Constitution of India.

  2. Residency: The candidate must be a permanent resident of Assam.

  3. Domicile Proof: As proof of residency, candidates must upload a copy of a valid Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC) issued in Assam for educational purposes, or an Employment Exchange Registration Certificate of Assam.

Educational Qualifications

Applicants must possess at least a Second Class (minimum 45% marks) degree in one of the following qualifications from a recognized University or Institution:

  • M.Sc. in Geology

  • M.Sc. in Applied Geology

  • M.Sc. Tech in Applied Geology

  • M.Tech in Applied Geology

  • Integrated M.Sc. Tech in Applied Geology

Age Limit and Relaxations

Age Proof Document: Age limits will be determined strictly on the basis of the Class-X or Class-XII Examination Admit Card, Pass Certificate, or Mark Sheet issued by a recognized Central/State Board or Council where the Date of Birth (DOB) is explicitly recorded. No other documents will be accepted.

Specific Conditions for Government Employees

  • Regular Government employees (permanent or temporary, excluding casual, ad-hoc, daily wage, hourly paid, or contract workers) must upload an employment certificate issued by the competent authority.

  • Candidates seeking pay protection or continuation of service must upload a 'No Objection Certificate (NOC)' issued by their employer.

Small Family Norms

As per Government Notification No. ABP.69/2019/17 (dated 6th November 2019), candidates are required to submit a signed declaration regarding "The Small Family Norms" in Form - A at the time of application. This form can be downloaded from the APSC website (Forms & Downloads section).

Application and Processing Fees

Under the Digital India initiative, the APSC has transitioned to an online recruitment portal developed in collaboration with CSC-SPV. A processing fee is charged to each candidate in addition to the standard examination fee. The fee structure is as follows:

  • Fee Relaxation: To claim fee concessions for claimed reserved categories, candidates must upload valid category certificates issued by the competent authority.

  • Refund Policy: Applications submitted without the prescribed fee will be summarily rejected without representation. Fees once paid are non-refundable under any circumstances and cannot be held in reserve for future examinations.

How to Apply

All applications must be submitted online through the APSC recruitment portal; no other mode of submission will be accepted. Follow these steps to apply:

  1. One Time Registration (OTR): Candidates who are not registered on the portal must visit https://apscrecruitment.in, click 'Register Here', and complete the OTR process using basic personal information. A valid and active e-mail address and mobile number are mandatory.

  2. OTR Profile Updates: Certificates relating to age, caste, and minimum educational qualifications will be fetched directly from the OTR profile. Ensure your profile is updated with additional documents prior to starting the application process.

  3. Login and Apply: Log in with your registered credentials, select the Assistant Geologist advertisement, and fill out all mandatory fields marked with an asterisk (*).

  4. Document Uploads: Required documents (Date of Birth, Educational Qualifications, Caste, PRC, Small Family Norms, etc.) must be uploaded in PDF format.

    • Maximum file size: 4 MB

    • Scanning recommendation: 200 DPI, greyscale

    • The print must be clearly legible.

    • Recent passport photograph (size: 50 KB - 200 KB, not older than 3 months) and signature (size: 50 KB - 200 KB) must be uploaded in JPG format.

  5. Preview and Submission: Review all entered details carefully. Use the Preview option to verify that all uploaded educational mark sheets, age proof documents, and certificates are clear and legible. Once final submission is made, no further editing will be permitted.

  6. Fee Payment: After previewing, proceed to pay the fee. Applications remain invalid until fee processing is complete. If a payment failure or pending status occurs, use the 'Check Status' option. For instances of double-debit, automatic bank refunds are processed within 5-7 working days.

  7. Print Application: Upon successful submission, a confirmation e-mail/SMS will be sent. Candidates must retain a printed hard copy of the submitted online application form for future reference.

  8. Alternative Submission: Candidates lacking internet banking or debit card facilities can apply through the nearest Common Service Centre (CSC).

Selection Procedure and Examination Zones

The selection procedure will be notified by the Commission at a later date via a corrigendum/addendum, depending on the volume of applications received. The Commission retains the discretion to conduct screening or written tests zone-wise across the state. The proposed zones and districts covered are as follows:

  • Silchar Zone: Hailakandi, Sribhumi, Cachar

  • Jorhat Zone: Golaghat, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Majuli, Charaideo, Sivasagar, Tinsukia

  • Nagaon Zone: Dima Hasao, Hojai, Nagaon, Morigaon, Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong

  • Tezpur Zone: Biswanath, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur, Udalguri

  • Kokrajhar Zone: Bongaigaon, Chirang, Dhubri, Goalpara, Kokrajhar, South Salmara

  • Guwahati Zone: Barpeta, Baksa, Kamrup, Kamrup (Metro), Nalbari, Darrang, Bajali, Tamulpur

The Commission retains the authority to reduce or increase examination zones based on operational requirements.

Documents Required at the Time of Interview

Shortlisted candidates summoned for a personal interview/viva-voce must produce original documents along with self-attested copies, failing which their candidature will be cancelled. Key documents include:

  • Class X/XII Admit Card or Pass Certificate indicating Date of Birth

  • Certificates and Mark Sheets of all educational examinations from HSLC up to the qualifying Master's/Tech degree

  • Experience Certificate (wherever necessary)

  • Caste Certificate issued by the Govt. of Assam for reserved category candidates

  • BPL Certificate (wherever necessary)

  • Downloaded and duly filled Declaration Form-A (Small Family Norms)

  • Photo Identity Proof (PAN Card, Driving Licence, Passport, Voter ID, Aadhaar Card, or current educational institution ID)

  • Documentary evidence supporting any other specific claims made during online registration

Important Points for Candidates

  • Provisional Admission: All stages of admission are provisional, subject to detailed scrutiny of eligibility conditions. Candidature will be cancelled at any stage if an applicant is found ineligible.

  • No Category Changes: No candidate will be allowed to change their claimed caste or sub-category after final form submission.

  • Disqualification for False Declarations: Furnishing incorrect information or suppressing material facts will lead to immediate disqualification from current and future advertisements for periods specified by the Commission. Cases of deliberate fraud may be referred to the state government for legal action.

  • No TA/DA Paid: The Commission does not defray travel or living expenses for candidates called for screening tests or viva-voce interviews.
