RRB JE & DMS Recruitment 2026: 3993 Posts, Apply Online
The Railway Recruitment Boards (RRB), Ministry of Railways, have released Centralised Employment Notification (CEN) No. 04/2026 (JE/DMS) for the recruitment of Junior Engineer (JE) and Depot Material Superintendent (DMS) posts. A total of 3,993 vacancies are open across 21 RRB zones in the Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, and Electronics & Allied disciplines — a Level 6 central government role with a starting basic pay of ₹35,400/month. Online applications are open from 14 August 2026 to 13 September 2026.This is one of the largest technical recruitment drives run by Indian Railways this year, and candidates from diploma and engineering backgrounds across the country are eligible to apply.

Vacancy details (RRB-wise)
Vacancies are distributed across all 21 RRBs. Choose your RRB carefully at the time of registration — this choice cannot be changed later, even during the modification window.
Total: 3,993 vacancies across Junior Engineer categories and Depot Material Superintendent posts. The exact post-category-wise breakup is provided in Annexure A, and the RRB-wise/community-wise breakup in Annexure B, of the official CEN. Vacancies are provisional and may increase, decrease, or become nil as per Railway Administration requirements.
Category-wise reservation (all-India, 3,993 total)
Horizontal reservation for PwBD (4%), Ex-Servicemen, and women candidates applies within the above vertical categories as per government norms. Refer to Annexure B of the official CEN for the exact RRB-wise, category-wise vacancy count.

Eligibility criteria (post-wise)
1. Junior Engineer (JE) — all categories
- Qualification: 3-year Diploma in Engineering (or a combination of sub-streams) in the discipline mapped to the post's Exam Group — Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Electronics & Allied Engineering, from a recognized university/institute. A higher qualification such as B.E./B.Tech in the same discipline is also accepted.
- Age limit: 18 to 33 years (age reckoned as on 1 January 2027)
- Medical standard: Post-specific standard (A-3, B-1, B-2, or C-1) as listed in Annexure A of the official notification
2. Depot Material Superintendent (DMS)
- Qualification: 3-year Diploma in Engineering in any discipline from a recognized university/institution (or an equivalent higher qualification such as B.E./B.Tech)
- Age limit: 18 to 33 years (age reckoned as on 1 January 2027)
- Note: DMS candidates whose diploma discipline doesn't fall under a listed Exam Group must still choose one Exam Group at the time of registration
Discipline / Exam Group mapping
A candidate holding qualifications mapped to more than one Exam Group can select only one group while registering, and can only apply to posts under that chosen group.
Citizenship
A candidate must be a citizen of India, a citizen of Nepal, a subject of Bhutan, or a person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, or specified East African/other countries with the intention of permanently settling in India (subject to a Government of India eligibility certificate where applicable). Candidates whose results are still awaited on the closing date of application are not eligible.
Age limit & relaxation
Relaxations are not cumulative — a candidate eligible under more than one ground receives only the maximum applicable relaxation. Additional relaxation applies to serving Railway Group C/D staff and widowed/divorced/judicially separated women candidates as per the official CEN.

Selection process & exam pattern
- 1st Stage CBT (screening) — 100 questions/100 marks, 90 minutes; covers Mathematics, General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness, and General Science. Normalized score is used only for shortlisting to the 2nd Stage, at 15 times the community-wise vacancy per RRB.
- 2nd Stage CBT (discipline-specific) — 150 questions/150 marks, 120 minutes; covers General Awareness, Physics & Chemistry, Basics of Computers, Environment & Pollution Control, and Technical Abilities specific to the Exam Group.
- Document Verification — based on merit and options filled in the 2nd Stage CBT; candidates called equal the number of vacancies.
- Medical Examination — as per the post-specific medical standard.
Negative marking of 1/3rd mark applies for each wrong answer in both CBT stages. Minimum qualifying marks: UR & EWS 40%, OBC-NCL & SC 30%, ST 25% (relaxable by up to 2 marks for PwBD candidates against reserved vacancies in case of shortage).
Salary & career growth
RRB JE and DMS posts carry a Level 6 (7th CPC) pay scale with a starting basic pay of ₹35,400/month. With Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, Transport Allowance, and Running/Night Duty Allowance where applicable, gross monthly pay typically works out well above the basic figure. As a Group C technical post, JE offers a defined promotion path over a career — from Junior Engineer to Senior Section Engineer and further supervisory grades — along with standard railway service benefits such as free/concessional travel passes, medical facilities, and pension under the New Pension Scheme.

- Create an account with a valid personal mobile number and email ID (cannot be changed later) — or log in with existing credentials if already registered for an earlier RRB CEN
- Optionally verify identity through DigiLocker/Aadhaar for smoother verification later
- Choose only one RRB, and give your order of preference for zones/production units and eligible posts
- Fill in personal and educational details, and select your Exam Group and medium of examination
- Capture a live photograph through the application module and upload your signature (JPG/JPEG, 30–49 KB)
- Pay the applicable application fee online via net banking, debit/credit card, or UPI
- Submit the form before 13 September 2026, 11:59 PM and note your Registration Number for future reference
Documents required
- Original Diploma/Degree certificates and mark sheets, with self-attested photocopies
- Matriculation/SSC/SSLC certificate as proof of date of birth
- Category certificate (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS/EBC), where applicable
- PwBD certificate and UDID, where applicable
- Ex-Servicemen discharge/employment certificate, where applicable
- No Objection Certificate (NOC) from current employer for serving government/PSU staff
- Colour passport-size photograph, not older than two months
